Keefer Block groundbreaking kicks off Chinatown revitalization

Under clear blue skies on Wednesday, May 2nd, Solterra‘s golden shovels went into the ground and officially kicked off the construction of Keefer Block, Chinatown’s newest community and the first part of the neighbourhood’s bold revitalization story.

“Chinatown has long been one of Vancouver’s historical jewels,” said Vancouver Councillor Raymond Louie at the event. “Keefer Block is the first step of a comprehensive plan to bring it back to glory, a revitalization that combines both cultural and economic components to preserve the unique fabric and feel of Chinatown.”

Ten years in the making, it’s a plan Louie believes will appeal not only to the people who’ve always loved Chinatown’s charm but also to a new, younger generation — buyers who value the area’s rich ethnic background, proximity to a burgeoning selection of urban amenities, and excellent bang for their homebuyer buck.

Louie was joined by over 40 members of the media, local officials and lucky homeowners who were on hand to witness this historic event and celebrate in the close-knit community.

Recognizing the importance of both preserving the past while securing the future through new homes and businesses, Solterra made a donation to the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden — voted one of the world’s best city gardens by National Geographic.
